In the 2000s, I wrote a blog called Orwell’s Grave (Blogger), primarily a running critique of the George W. Bush administration and its leadership and allies, but mostly about their policies and ideas. Orwell, of course, is the George Orwell, the pen name for Eric Arthur Blair, author of 1984 and Animal Farm, among many other books and essays. My writing focused on the manufactured war in Iraq, the lies that accompanied its waging, the ridiculous domestic policies and religious fervor infecting the Bush administration legislation and social policies, and the beady-eyed knucklehead, himself, who was President. Little did I imagine that just a few years later, Bush, his henchmen, and his personal failures and crimes, would be wildly eclipsed by the cult of Trump and his cruelty, misogyny, racism, criminal behavior, and ignorance.
I am now renewing my blog writing on Substack and invite you to subscribe. This is Orwell’s Grave Redux, narrowing in on the lies, disinformation, hatred, prejudice, and violence directed at those in our world who go without, who are ignored, who are not believed, all of whom survive, desperately demanding justice. For all of you who follow me on Facebook, I will cease writing about all the issues I care about there and submit my thoughts here. Facebook will be a place for me to celebrate — family, nature, hope, happiness, and fun.
Orwell’s Grave Redux will be restricted to only some of the diverse topics I have covered on Facebook — mainly targeting issues related to racism, misogyny, trans and gay phobia, and domestic and sexual violence (two issues I have been involved in professionally and as a volunteer since the mid-1980s).
One final thing: as the days, months, and years move forward, I will also, on occasion, publish short chapter stories from my “memoir/autobiography” that I am writing, sharing stories of my life that many friends and family have urged me to write about.
If you subscribe (or don’t), please send me your discoveries, ideas, your stories, your critiques, concerns and questions. I am really stoked about revisiting Orwell’s Grave where George lies still spinning today, even more so. I invite you to engage with Orwell’s Grave Redux.
